Grow-A-Garden: Backyard & Container Gardens Project
Want to grow your own food—right in your yard, porch, or window? The Springfield Food Policy Council believes that everyone who wants to grow their own food should have the support that they need to do so. To help make this happen, we are installing raised-bed and container gardens through our Grow-a-Garden initiative. This initiative supports low- to moderate-income households across Springfield and organizations who want to grow their own food.

Urban Agriculture in Springfield
View the Presentation from the February 2018 community meeting about Springfield's urban agriculture.
Click here to read "Food in the City: An Old Way in a New Time," a comprehensive report on urban agriculture in the City of Springfield published by the Springfield Food Policy Council.
This report looks at the broad health, social, economic, and ecological benefits of urban agriculture, and explores types of urban agriculture that may help address issues of food insecurity, food deserts, and poverty in Springfield. The cornerstone of this report is an assessment, using a Geographic Informations System (GIS), of the suitability of city-owned, structure-free vacant lots for agricultural use, and identification of possible changes to infrastructure to better support urban agriculture in Springfield.
