Program
Practical training and internships for University Students
Springfield Food Policy Council offers internship opportunities to a limited number of students in both Grad and Undergrad Program.
The objective of this program is to assist participants in gaining practical work experience and help them meet the graduation requirements of their respective schools. Participants who take part in the program are evaluated at the end of the program to determine their overall grade for the internship credits required by the school.
Program Objectives
The Program is designed to meet the following objectives:

Allow students to acquire new skills, get them used to creative thinking, and allow them to practice problem-solving and decision-making.

Opportunity to engage with local, state, and national stakeholders in food systems planning and public health.
Requirements

Upperclass undergraduate student (junior or senior preferred) in business, public policy, public administration, economics, public health, marketing, supply chain management, or a related field.

Interest in food systems, community economic development, health equity, and/or local food policy.

Accepted students must not be enrolled in university classes/modules during their training period.

A narrative writing sample (no more than 1 page), related to policy advocacy
OR
Samples of other communications work (no more than 2 pages), such as social media posts, infographics, or links to video content you have produced. -
A second writing sample is optional, but it should be relevant to the projects listed above.

Available Internship Opportunities
assist with the activities of the Community Food Hub including the creation of promotional materials for residents, organizations and stakeholders. Identify newsletter content; managing communications around and helping to facilitate food access partnerships designed to expand access for low income families. Assist with the aggregation and distribution of produce coming and going from the food hub for the SFPC’s 2024 no cost farm food access shares and helping build relationships across the local food supply chain.
assist with Farmer Training learning objectives and grant deliverables; prepare course materials; schedule speakers and field trips: coordinate logistics for training courses; attend training sessions and provide technical assistance to participants; evaluate training sessions, develop manuals. Support participants via online and in-person courses including Farm Business Planning and Crop Production. Support GTC farm manager with production related needs in the field.

help spearhead communications; assist with outreach to community groups at conferences and events; develop content for the SFPC & GTC newsletters and social media sites; solicit media coverage for events and news. Assist with creation of brochures, flyers, resource guide layout, and other visual identity needs. Compile and update resources and links in the online resource library.
